All households in J&K to have 100% piped water supply by 2022: Advisor Sharma

NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Advisor to Governor KK Sharma along with Commissioner Secretary, PHE Ajit Kumar Sahu, today attended State Ministers’ Conference on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The conference was organised by Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India here. The conference was held under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendera Singh Shekhawat.
The conference was also attended by Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Rattan Lal Kataria, Union Secretary for Drinking Water and Sanitation Parmeshwaran Iyer and concerned Ministers of all States.
During his speech, Advisor KK Sharma appreciated the Government of India’s prestigious program of ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’, Swach Bharat Mission, and Saubhagya Scheme.
He said that the Governor led administration in J&K has started working towards the implementation and in achieving the scheme of 100% piped water supply to all households by 2022.
Further, he added that the J&K is already having more than 30% rural households connected through piped water supply and under the new scheme it will be scaled up to 100 per cent by 2022. He also informed the Union Minister that the J&K Government is taking many other decisions to strengthen the institutional mechanism for faster delivery like devolution of powers and funds to PRIs.
Regarding the harsh cold desert climatic conditions of Ladakh, the Advisor urged the GoI to consider providing technical consultancy of experts and innovative measures to tackle and suggest the suitable technical solution of the problem in view of below freezing temperature for a long period.
