Water scarcity, power fluctuation main issues

JAMMU: Water scarcity, sewerage problem and power fluctuation are the main issues, which the residents of Ward Number 35 are facing.
Apart from aforesaid issues, the residents particularly mor-ning and evening walkers raised the issue of park in the vicinity of Ram Vihar, which according to them is in deplorable condition and needs immediate attention.
The Ward comprised 05 Mohallahs including Ram Vihar, Indira Vihar, Shant Nagar, Pandoka Colony and EWS Colony Paloura.
In this Ward, people face manifold problem on account of shortage of drinking water. The worst sufferers of water shortage are women, who fail to carry out daily chores without sufficient quantity of water.
“Water is not being supplied on daily basis in our Wards, which creates problems for us”, Sahil, a resident of Indira Vihar said.
Fluctuation in power is one more issue, which the residents of this Ward faced.
“Many times our gadgets get damaged due to power fluctuation. This issue needs to be resolved on permanent basis”, Suresh, a resident said.
Lanes and drains in this Ward also need attention of the authorities. Choked drains have led to sewerage problems in many areas of this Ward and also lead to health hazard.
In our Ward, the lanes and drains need to be repaired immediately. Choked drains should be cleaned for the free flow of water, which comes out of the houses”, Mukesh Sharma said.
“We face numerous issues during morning and evening walks in the park at Ram Vihar. The park should be developed for the benefit of masses especially children”, a group of morning walkers said.
When all these issues were taken up with the newly elected Corporator of Ward Number 35 Yashpal Sharma (Mantoo), a BJP leader, he asserted that people have given him mandate and it is his duty to address all the issues in his Ward whether it is water scarcity, power fluctuation or any other issues.
Regarding the development of the park in Ram Vihar, Sharma said that the park will be developed at par with the parks in the posh Gandhi Nagar area. “I will get the park renovated through Floriculture Department in the shortest possible time with all facilities including tracks for morning and evening walkers, washroom, bathing ghat, etc.
Mantoo said Rs 51 lakh have been approved for development of Bharat Mata Park in Janipura and work on its modernization will start soon. He said water supply has considerably improved in the area and it will improve further with second ERA project.
“Water leakage from pipes is being plugged to provide clean water supply to the people”, he said, adding he has also launched daily inter-action programme with the people of his Ward.
On the subject of sanitation issue, he said that a check will be kept on the working of Safai Karamchari and every tool will be provided to them to keep the Ward neat and clean.
For the overall development of the Ward, the MLA and Corporator funds will be utilised, Sharma informed.
Regarding Nullah of EWS colony, he said the issue has been taken up with the authorities and was being vigorously pursued.
“I joined BJP party in 1987 and since then I am working on the ideology of the party. In every Assembly and Parliamentary elections, I would aware the masses about the policies of the BJP party”, he said, adding that people have elected me and I will work to redress their issues on priority.
