JAMMU, Apr 18: A delegation of All J&K NGO’s Federation, led by VK Katal, Chairman, today visited the office of Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, to present their demands and suggestions.
As per a statement, the delegation, comprising other members of the Federation including, Anil Govind, Shuza Jaffar, Dr Arun Gandotra, TR Sharma, and Tariq Mirza, raised several issues such as the delay in issuance of new registration certificates to societies in the name of CID/Police verification, violation of the mandate of local NGOs/VOs, and the need for establishing old age homes, day care centres, and rehabilitation centres for mentally challenged children.
The delegation also emphasized the importance of involving NGOs/VOs in the Green India Mission to protect the ecology and environment in the Himalayan region.
They also urged for the proper implementation of the PNDT Act for preventing sex-selection and genetic abnormalities, and the setting up of Genetic Counselling Centre, Genetic Laboratory, and Genetic Clinic in all medical colleges and District Hospitals of J&K.
The delegation further highlighted the issue of doctors charging consultation fees at will, defying government orders regarding fee structure.
They also urged for better accountability and compensation from the authorities for the inconvenience caused to the public by stray and pet dogs, leading to dog bites and fatal rabies.
The Chief Secretary patiently heard the demands and grievances of the delegation and assured that their concerns will be addressed and resolved at the earliest.
