UDHAMPUR, Oct 16: While holding a flurry or virtual as well as physical organizational meetings in district Udhampur, Ranbir Singh Pathania, BJP Spokesperson and former MLA, said that all persons who are ordinarily resident in a particular area, irrespective of their place of permanent residence, are entitled to get themselves enrolled as voters in that particular area.
He further said that section-19 and Section-20 of RPA 1950 are as clear as day, as to how a person who may be ‘permanently resident’ at one place and ‘ordinarily resident’ at other, can register himself as voter and cast his vote at a place where he is ordinarily residing.
“The law had been enacted by the Indian Parliament during times of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Sheikh Mohd Abdullah and Mufti Mohd Sayeed. And now progenies of Sheikh Abdullah, Jawahar Lal Nehru and Mufti are disputing and questioning the sanctity of said law. Had gimmickry been able to deliver fruits, J & K by now would have turned into happy oasis of a State,” he said.
Pathania called upon the party cadres to immediately get all eligible voters included in the new voter revision. He also called for immediate liasoning with concerned BLOs so that all the old/newly enrolled voters could be Aadhar- linked. He also called for a meticulous cross checking of the voter lists so that all discrepancies/loose gaps could be effectively plugged out and an effective set-up, particularly post delimitation, could be put in place.
“Free and fair elections are the very bedrock of democracy and BJP is committed to it. It is the duty of all of us that we ensure that all eligible people are able to vote in a most free and fair environment and in line with the mandate of the law of land,” said Pathania and also called for immediate initiation of door to door and man to man mobilization of people so that no eligible voter is left out in the new electoral revision.
In the meeting, it was decided that voter revision activities of the party shall be reviewed physically in a chain of programmes spanning from 17th to 21st October in the length and breadth of the district Udhampur.
Pathania was accompanied by Sukhdev Sharma, Kuldeep Singh (District General Secretaries), Mool Raj, DDC Ramnagar-I, Jattu Ram DDC Ramnagar-II and others.
