Allotment of land to 34 units in Kathua, Bari Brahmana cancelled

JAMMU, Apr 9: In a bid to check alleged land mafia in Industrial Estates, Divisional Level Single Window Clearance Committee of the Department of Industries and Commerce today cancelled 103.5 Kanals of land allotted to 34 provisionally registered units at Kathua and Bari Brahmana in Jammu region.
The cancellation has been ordered as these allottees failed to establish their units on the land even after years since the allotment. These erring units were allotted industrial land on lease basis.
According to an official spokesman, the decision for cancellation of the allotment was taken at a meeting of the Divisional Level Single Window Clearance Committee, held under the chairmanship of Director Industries and Commerce, Jammu, Dr Abdul Rashid.
The Committee took serious note of the allotted land having left unused and idle by the allottee entrepreneurs. After detailed discussions, a decision was taken to cancel the allotments on 101 Kanals of land at Kathua and 2.5 Kanal land at Bari Brahmana in the Jammu division.
While majority of the erring units were given two to four kanals of industrial land, a few were allotted bigger areas. For example, M/s R P Pigments Pvt Ltd, was allotted 20 kanals of land at IID Centre Govindsar, Kathua.
The land, which had been unnecessarily locked and blocked, will be allotted to genuine prospective entrepreneurs in the next meeting of the Committee, the spokesman added.

The significant decision of canceling the allotted land has been taken amidst reports that a land mafia was operating in guise of industrialist, who were getting the industrial land allotted for establishing unit and then subletting it on higher rates.
Meanwhile, the Committee also cleared the cases of 15 entrepreneurs and allotted 40.12 Kanals of land to them for establishing their units. These units are likely to generate employment for 226 persons and will result in investment to plant and machinery to the tune of about Rs 7.32 crores.
