Alsafa Colony sans drainage system

SRINAGAR, Feb 9: The residents of Alsafa Colony in Kartar Garh area of Rafiabad in North Kashmir’s Sopore town accused authorities for failing to provide a proper drainage system in the area.
In absence of a drainage system, the residents said, the area often remains submerged in water. They said that for the last 30 years the area is facing severe water logging. “With slight drizzles the whole area submerges into water. We have been facing the problem for last three decades,” Shabir Ahmad, a local said.
They said the worst sufferers are their children who have to wade through knee deep waters to reach school. The women on the other hand are unable to venture out of their homes as each and every lane is under water. “It also puts them vulnerable to the disease,” a local said.
The residents said they have repeatedly raised the issue with the authorities concerned but failed to get response from them. “We have time and again approached the authorities, particularly Roads and Buildings Department for the maintenance of the roads but to no avail,” he said.
The residents said that they have been running from pillar and post but received cold response. “We have been running from pillar to post, nobody cares about us. We have been completely left in the lurch. Nobody is there to listen,” Altaf Ahmad, a local said.
The locals demanded a proper drainage to be laid in the locality and also appealed the Roads and Buildings Department to consider their concerns. “Until a permanent solution is not sought, the area would continue to face the problem,” Mohammad Ashraf, another resident said.
