JAMMU, June 7: All Ladakh Student Welfare Association, Jammu (ALSWAJ) today opposed the Government decision to start functioning Cluster University from satellite campus of Kashmir University (KU) in Kargil.
Addressing a press conference here today, vice-president of ALSWAJ, Sabha Khatoon, expressed her strong resentment against the Government decision, stating that when Kargil campus is functioning at par with other campuses of Kashmir University then why Government is trying to shut down Kargil campus.
She informed that in a letter, J&K Higher Education Department recently directed Kashmir University to hand over 600 kanals of land out of 700 Kanals of Kargil campus for the Cluster University and restrict its academic activities within 100 kanals of land.
Khatoon said the association demands that Cluster University in Kargil must be established in the vicinity of Government Degree College Kargil. She said that student community will not allow any sort of effort to disturb Kargil campus which is showing its potential to be future university.
She questioned the administration that when both Jammu and Kashmir provinces can have 5 to 6 universities functioning simultaneously then why not Kargil can have both Cluster University and a satellite campus of KU. She said the student community of Kargil will be on roads if Higher Education Department does not shun its plan to shut down Kargil campus of KU.
The student leader said that residents of Kargil district and the student community in particular have been protesting against this decision for last one week. “All religious, political and social organizations have expressed their solidarity with student community on the issue,” she added.
