SRINAGAR: Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Wednesday asked the legislators to shoulder responsibility of transforming education system in their respective constituencies for better future of the students.
The Minister stated this in a meeting he chaired today here to review school education scenario of Kupwara and Bandipora districts. The meeting was attended by Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj and Law & Justice Abdul Haq Khan, Minister for Social Welfare, ARI & Trainings and Science & Technology Sajad Gani Lone, Minister of State for Education Priya Sethi, Legislators Bashir Ahmad Dar, Abdul Rashir Sheikh, Raja Manzoor Ahmad, Nazir Ahmad Khan, Akbar Lone, Usman Majeed, Javaid Ahmad, Qaisar Jamsheed Lone, and Yasir Reshi.
The Education Minister urged the legislators to spare three days a month to provide suggestions for improving education scenario and asked them to take the ownership of the educational institutions in their respective constituencies.
Commenting on student protests, Bukhari said that students have every right to protest peacefully inside the campus but when they take to streets, it becomes law and order problem.
He directed the school authorities to conduct parent-teacher meeting after every three months and asked them to complete the syllabus on time. He added that attendance of students is a must to improve educational standard, the Minister said, “No student will be allowed to sit in the exam who has shortage in attendance.”
The meeting also discussed proposal for making school for Specially-abled children in every district. Bukari said that the already announced Model schools in every constituency will be constructed as soon as possible and said that he will forward a proposal to Union Government for the construction of one auditorium in every constituency of the State.
The Minister resolved to make academics in the State free from corruption and politics and urged the legislators to join hands with the Government for improving the educational system.
On the occasion, the legislators put forward various issues concerning their respective constituencies regarding the functioning of the Education Department.
Among others, Secretary Education, DC Kupwara, DC Bandipora Directors of Education, SSA, RMSA attended the meeting.
