Altaf for early settlement of land compensation cases

SRINAGAR, Sept 30: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad has asked the BEACON authorities and Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal to sit together and settle the compensation cases of the land acquired at Kangan Market to ensure early starting of work on widening of Kangan-Sonamarg road on Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
He asked BEACON authorities to speed up the process of land acquisition required for construction of approach road of Zojila tunnel so that work on ground is started early for this prestigious project.
The Minister was reviewing the progress of the Zojila tunnel at an officers meeting here today, attended, among others, by Commissioner Secretary Forests, Chief Engineer, BEACON, Member Secretary, SPCB, Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal besides senior officers of Forest Department.
Describing saving of forests and environment priority of the Government, the Minister asked all the officers of line departments to ensure that minimum forests land is involved in the project that too without damaging the environment.
The meeting was told that Rs. 13 crore are pending with BEACON and SAMPARK on account of compensation of forest land acquired by these two agencies. The BEACON has proposed Rs. 630 lakh for acquisition of land required for the project, it was added.
