No BJP candidate in fray in Anantnag

Srinagar, Apr 19: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference (NC) leader Mian Altaf are prominent among 25 candidates who filed their nomination papers in Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary constituency.
As per the Election Commission of India data, 25 candidates have filed their nomination papers as the last day for filing nominations ended today while the scrutiny of papers will be done on Saturday.

Returning Officer of the constituency and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Syed Fakhrudin Hamid in a press conference said that the last date of withdrawal of the forms is April 22 following which meetings regarding different issues including symbols will be conducted.
He said that all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the election has been done and whatever more will be required will be done on time.
Besides, the Returning Officer urged people to cast their votes on May 7 saying it is both duty and responsibility of the citizens to cast their vote.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not fielded their candidate from the constituency. It is believed that BJP is likely to extend its support to Apni Party (AP) candidate Zaffar Manhas.
Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) had earlier announced its chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad as the candidate from the constituency, but later it decided to field Advocate Saleem Parray as the party candidate to vie for the seat.
The Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat, comprising 18 Assembly segments, is poised for a riveting contest in the upcoming elections.
The Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat boasts a formidable electorate of 1,925,450 votes, with significant representation from South Kashmir and Rajouri-Poonch districts.
In her election affidavit, Mufti has declared that her taxable income dropped nearly 90 per cent from Rs 8,63,928 in FY 2018-19 to just Rs 84,750 in FY 2019-20 when Article 370 was scrapped.
The affidavit revealed that her income surged to Rs 19,98,520 in FY 2020-21; Rs 12,44,620 in FY 2021-22 and Rs 9,85,250 in FY 2022-23.
She has also disclosed that she holds movable assets worth Rs 40,69,867 and immovable assets worth Rs 35 lakh.
In his election affidavit, NC candidate Mian Altaf Ahmad has declared that his taxable income dropped by 2 lakhs from Rs 9,18,140 in FY 2018-19 to just Rs 7,54, 267 in FY 2019-20 when Article 370 was scrapped.
The affidavit revealed that his income surged to Rs 10,70,460 in FY 2020-21; Rs 12,00,210 in FY 2021-22 and Rs 21,91,000 in FY 2022-23.
He has also disclosed that he holds movable assets worth Rs 38 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 16 and two residential houses. He has declared his self-acquired assets of Rs 7.24 crores and ancestral assets of Rs 10 crores.
