Altaf reviews progress of development projects

SRINAGAR, July 29: Road widening at Kangan Market will be taken up after the Eid festival and the process of land compensation to the effected people would also go simultaneously.
This assurance was given to the Minister for Forest and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad by the Beacon authorities at a meeting of officers which was convened to review the status of various on-going projects under Road, PHE, Power, Health and Education sectors in Kangan area.
Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafiz, officers of R&B, PHE, PDD, Revenue, Education, Health and Beacon were present in the meeting.
The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to take necessary steps for ensuring cleanliness of the Kangan Market in order to address the grievance of the locals and shopkeepers.
Apart from widening of Kangan Market road, the Minister was told that work on widening of Kangan-Sonamarg highway will also be taken up shortly. The meeting was informed that Rs 11.75 crore Pethpora-Chattergul road project has been prioritized while as black topping of 1 km Akhal road will be taken up soon.
It was given out that Rs 34 crore have been earmarked for upgradation of overall drinking water scenario in in the constituency. In this connection 12 water supply schemes (WSS) and Satarnag Filteration Plant have been targeted to be completed during the current financial year in the Kangan area, the meeting was informed.
The meeting was further told that a project of Rs 25 lakh has been submitted to the Government for approval to improve the power supply scenario in the constituency. In addition a project of Rs. 44.20 crore has also been submitted for replacement of HT and LT lines, besides Rs 23 lakh have been allotted for improving LT and HT lines in vulnerable locations, the meeting was informed.
Maintaining that drinking water and electricity are the essential needs of the people, the Minister directed the officers to double their efforts to restore these facilities in the area expeditiously.
The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to intensify the market checking in the district and ensure adequate availability of essentials to the people on genuine rates during the holy month of Ramadhan and forth coming Jumat-ul-Vida and Eid-ul- Fitr.
