Altaf seeks rehabilitation of nomads

SRINAGAR, Aug 22: Senior NC leader and MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmed has expressed anguish over the reports that over 200 nomad families living along the Jammu-Pathankot Highway near Samba have been asked to vacate the Government land to pave the way for establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Vijaypur in Samba district.
In a statement here, Altaf said it is unfortunate that the PDP-BJP government is forcing these families living there for the last over two decades to vacate the land without any prior information and proper rehabilitation plan.
“If there is so much land available to the Government in that area, the Government should have taken it under consideration and have selected some adjacent area so that the residential areas are not affected” the statement said.
