JAMMU, Dec 3: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad accompanied by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Conservator of Forests and other senior officers of Forest Department today visited Bathandi, Sidhra, Jagti and Shiba areas and took stock of the fencing works executed by the Forest Department for protection of forest land.
The Minister said that the initiatives taken by the department for protection of forest land are yielding better results while the department succeeded in protecting forest land in critical areas of Jammu against encroachment.
Mian Altaf asked concerned officers to adopt low cost methods of fencing rather than chain fencing which is expensive and time consuming. He said fencing of forest land on one hand will protect forest land from encroachment and on other hand will go a long way in providing adequate fodder for the livestock of the people living near the jungles.
The Minister instructed the concerned officers to mobilize forest protection machinery and ensure that no land is encroached in the area at any cost. He said the land fenced near Golf course Sidhra is a good achievement of the department and instructed the concerned to go for massive plantation on the land. He said the plantation will be beneficial for protection of the environment.
