Altaf takes stock of ongoing road projects

KANGAN, May 19: Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad today conducted an extensive tour of Kangan constituency and took stock of the ongoing roads projects coming up under PMGSY in the constituency.
During the tour, the Minister visited Tikbagh, Gutlibagh, Babavalio, Preng Akhal, Hyan, Chappergund, Wurpash, Shajinar, Anderwon, Brimchan, Satvas, Babareshi Chattergul, Chattergul Bala, Satrina and Kawcherrwon villages situated at high altitudes.
The Minister said road connectivity in the constituency has reached to 90 percent while efforts are on to provide road link to those areas which lack road connectivity as yet. He said, for the purpose, instructions have been given to concerned engineers for framing the projects so that same are forwarded to Centre Government for approval and funding.
Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafiz, S.P. Ganderbal and senior engineers of R&B and PMGSY Departments accompanied the Minister.
The Minister asked the Deputy Commissioner and the engineers of PMGSY and R&B Department to sit together and resolve the land acquisition issues impeding the progress of certain road projects started in the constituency. He directed engineers to speed up work in view of limited working season of the Valley and ensure that road projects started are complete as per schedule.
Terming road connectivity is one of the important basic needs of people, the Minister said that no development is possible without road network. He instructed engineers to frame proposals for connecting unconnected areas through road network.
While inspecting 7.08 km Akhal-Hyan road, the Minister was told that Rs. 1 crore stands expended out of total estimated cost of Rs. 3.63 crore of the project. He was informed that Rs 36 lakh have been spent on 1.25 km Satrina-Gori Mohalla road so far out of Rs. 70 lakh approved cost of the project.
En-route several individuals and deputations met the Minister and appraised about their problems. They demanded adequate supply of drinking water, macadamization of main as well as interior road links, and regular electricity supply, besides reconsidering the power tariff hiked by the Government.
The Minister issued on- the- spot directions to the concerned engineers of R&B for macadamization of interior links and also asked Deputy Commissioner to address the water supply problem of the people on priority.
