The Government is making various efforts to improve power supply condition to all the three regions of the State. We have at present connectivity with Northern Grid which is the main supply line of power to the State. Two years ago, there was disruption in this line somewhere near Reasi owing to heavy snowfall and owing to fault in some towers supplying power to the valley which remained cut off totally for some days. Keeping this in mind, it was decided to have the alternative transmission line of 400 KV via Rajouri and the Mughal Road. This alternate transmission will be in two phases or Elements in technical language. Element I will bring 400 KV transmission line from Jullandhar to Samba and the Element II will connect Samba with Amargarh in Pattan, Baramulla district in the Valley. The cheering news is that the raising of towers for Element I is almost complete and it would become functional by March this year. The concerned company has done a marvelous job of completing the project before the schedule time. The Element II is also in progress and hopefully will be completed soon. The interesting thing is that the executing company intends to requisition the services of a foreign company in regard to using choppers for raising transmission towers over the difficult and tortuous heights of Pir Panchal range. This will be the first time in an Asian country where heli-cranes choppers will contribute to the raising of transmission towers. Once completed, the project will enable more than 1000 MW of power exchange between J&K and the Northern Grid thus providing relief to the State by ensuring continuous power to J&K even during extreme weather conditions. It will also give provision for further expansion to meet the growing energy needs of the State. We congratulate the engineers, workers and all functionaries of the project for their sustained effort to serve the state in inclement weather and topographical conditions. They have rendered marvelous service to our State and we are grateful to them.
