AMRITSAR, May 9: Proving that purpose and passion always leads to excellence, Amandeep Medicity Hospital Amritsar conducted heart surgery of a critical patient successfully amid lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak.
“Health workers are at the frontline of the COVID-19 outbreak response and as such are exposed to hazards that put them at risk of infection. During this time we reflect on the most immediate need for one and all, to be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy. Today there is no bigger issue than health, as the world fights against the Covid-19 pandemic,” said the management of Amandeep Group of Hospitals.
The management further aid, “The outbreak of the pandemic Covid-19 has created a stressful environment for all leading to worldwide psychological chaos. The fear and anxiety about the disease causes strong emotions in adults and children. One needs to cope up with the stress to make yourself and the people you care about stronger. Each individual reacts differently to a stressful situation. Besides this virus fear, there are various other factors that can lead to stress. A majority of heart patients above 65 are at a higher risk of getting sick due to corona virus. Even, hypertension and diabetic patients are at risk for heart disease and are also associated with morbidity and mortality with COVID 19.”
It said that same was the case with patient Harbhajan Singh (67), who had critical blockages in all 3 arteries of the heart, more that 90 %, adding that heart was functioning only 25% and had his 1st heart attack to be advised bypass surgery, but he didn’t go for it.
“He again had heart attack and difficulty in breathing, when emergency care was given by Dr Yadvinder Singh and patient was stabilized. After stabilization, Coronary angiography was done which revealed multiple blockages in all three vessels. Bypass surgery was done at Amandeep Medicity Hospital by a Department of Cardiac Sciences under the supervision of well-known cardiac surgeon Dr Swarup Raj Pal during lockdown crossing all the barriers. 5 grafts were put and now the patient is fine,” the management maintained.
