JAMMU, Oct 14: A Samohik Yagnopavit (wearing of sacred thread round the neck) ceremony of 13 Hindu boys was solemnized by Amar Balidan Trust at Samaj Sudhar Community Hall Durga Nagar today.
On the occasion a Mahayagya was also performed which started yesterday and concluded with Puranahuti this evening.
A large number of people attended the function. Besides, the learned scholars and Acharyas also attended the function and blessed the children.
Swami Kumar Ji of Geeta Satsang Ashram, Muthi was the guest of honour on the occasion while Commissioner JMC, Kiran Wattal also graced the occasion.
Giving religious discourses Swami Kumarji threw light on the importance of Yagnopavit. He said this sacred thread imposes some responsibilities on these children towards their parents, society and nation as a whole.
Kiran Wattal also spoke on the occasion and stressed on performance of Samohik Yagnopavit ceremonies.
On the occasion Trust president, H L Chatta and its senior vice president, R K Raina honoured Mr Wattal by presenting a Sarropa and a Gayatri memento to him.
The function culminated with puranahuti which was followed by serving of prashad to the gathering.
