SRINAGAR, Feb 1: The Managing Committee of Amar Singh Club, Srinagar, organized the second session of its ‘Common Interest Conversations’ series on the topic “Digital Addiction: An Invisible Pandemic.” The event was chaired by eminent neurologist Dr Sushil Razdan and presided over by Senior Advocate Zaffar Shah.
A distinguished panel of experts, including Dr Kaisar Ahmed, Dr Naveed Nazir Shah, Dr Majid Shafi, Dr Najeeb Drabu, Dr Khursheed Ahmed, Dr Tariq Trumboo, Dr Javid Iqbal, Dr Musharaf, G N War, Nasir Ali Khan and Tahir Peerzada participated in the discussion. The Club’s Managing Committee members Rauf Ahmed Punjabi, M S Sethi and Parvez Fazili were also present.
Dr Sushil Razdan highlighted how digital addiction is reshaping young minds, leading to memory loss, learning difficulties and mental health disorders. He emphasized the need for parental supervision, physical activities and limited digital exposure for children. Dr Kaisar Ahmed warned of increased cases of vision impairments, aggression and cognitive decline in children due to excessive screen time. Dr Naveed Nazir Shah stressed the importance of balanced digital habits while Dr Majid Shafi linked digital addiction to sleep disorders, anxiety and behavioral changes.
Medical experts also raised concerns over physical ailments caused by digital overuse. Dr Tariq Trumboo pointed out the growing number of musculoskeletal issues, especially neck pain while Dr Najeeb Drabu highlighted wrist nerve entrapment and reduced attention spans. Dr Khursheed Ahmed noted the alarming rise in digital eye strain, myopia and retinal damage.
Educational experts like G N War called for policy changes to curb digital dependency in schools while Sardar Nasir Ali Khan supported banning social media for minors, citing global examples.
The event concluded with Nasir Hamid Khan, Club Secretary, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness, digital fasting strategies and policy interventions to combat digital addiction. The discussion’s findings will be used to formulate guidelines for responsible digital usage in the next session of Common Interest Conversations.
