SRINAGAR : Pilgrimage is progressing smoothly to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where the number of yatris who have paid obeisance so far has crossed over one lakh since the commencement of the 40-day-long yatra from June 29.
Fresh batches of pilgrims left Baltal and Pahalgam base camps early this morning for holy Amarnath shrine, a yatra official said.He said that pilgrims, who had night halt at Panjtarni, paid obeisance at the cave shrine this morning. More pilgrims are on way to holy shrine, he said.
He said 15,335 yatris had paid obeisance at the holy cave from shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam tracks yesterday. With this, a total of 1,05,380 pilgrims , including women and sadhus, had darshan of self made ice-Shivling at the cave shrine so far.
Majority of the pilgrims have returned to their homes after having darshan of the self made ice-lingam at the cave shrine.
A fresh batch of pilgrims left fro the cave shrine from shortest Baltal track early this morning.
The pilgrims are expected to reach the holy cave by this afternoon, he said, adding that pilgrims, who had night halt at cave shrine, are also on way back to Baltal base camp.
Majority pilgrims, who prefer Pahalgam traditional route to holy cave, are returning via shortest Baltal track, he said.
Meanwhile, fresh batch of pilgrims left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional track. Pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari and other halting station, have also started their foot journey towards the cave shrine .
He said majority of pilgrims, who had darshan at the cave shrine, have returned to their homes while some have extended their stay in the Kashmir valley for visiting tourists places. (agencies)
