Amarnath Yatra resumes from Baltal, Pahalgam routes

SRINAGAR:The Amarnath Yatra resumed today from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes after its suspension yesterday due to slippery track following rain.
So far, 1,31,706 pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine till last night since the commencement of the 59-day-long yatra from July 2 from both traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal tracks.    Weather is dry and pleasant today and fresh batches of pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus, left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy cave shrine early this morning, a Yatra official told.
The yatra was stopped yesterday after both tracks became slippery due to overnight rains. However, 3,000 pilgrims, who had left Baltal base camp early yesterday morning and were stopped at Brarimarg, were later allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine in the afternoon after improvement in the weather. However, no fresh yatra was allowed from Baltal or Nunwan Pahalgam base camp.    With improvement in the weather today, 2,900 pilgrims, including 500 women, left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp early this morning till 0700 hrs for next halting station Chandanwari, connected by road. Similarly pilgrims, who had night halt at different halting stations on the traditional route, have started their foot journey towards the cave shrine.
Similarly, about 5,000 yatris, including about 1,250 women and 43 children besides 11 sadhus also left Baltal base camp for the holy Cave shrine. Majority yatris will reach the cave shrine this afternoon after covering the 16-km-long track.    Pilgrims, who had darshan but could not return to base camp due to rain yesterday, have also started their journey towards Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.     Majority of the pilgrims returned to their homes after completing the pilgrimage, while others are visiting tourist places in the valley.
