JAMMU, Apr 12: The birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, was celebrated today with great fervor by several educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the guidance of Prof B N Tripathi, Vice- Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and leadership of Dean of Student Welfare, Dr Sudhakar Dwivedi, a vibrant programme to pay respectful homage to Dr Ambedkar was organized in SKUAST-Jammu at R S Pura. NSS instructors and volunteers from the University gathered on the occasion to honour the legacy and contributions of Dr Ambedkar to Indian society. The program included a quiz competition conducted by Dr Kawardeep Kour on Dr Ambedkar’s life, thoughts and works.
To commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti, a series of programs were organized at Government Degree College (GDC) Nagrota. The program commenced with presenting floral tribute by Principal of the College Prof Anjali Mahajan. In the series of events, an oath taking ceremony was organized reaffirming values of equality, and justice. An essay writing competition was also held on the ideals and philosophy of Dr Ambedkar. Further, an awareness lecture was organized on the topic “From Margins to Mainstream: Dr Ambedkar Social Reformer, Architect of Modern India”.
NSS Unit of GDC Mahanpur organized a pledge taken ceremony within the campus to celebrate birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. The ceremony was organized by Dr Sapna under the guidance of Dr Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College. The staff members present were Dr Mohinder Nath Sharma, Nisha Kumari, Dr Anju Bala, Dr Yograj, Dr Nishu, Prof Namita Trogia, Dr Hilal, Prof Monika Devi, Prof Pooja Sambyal and Prof Shivani Panooch. More than 40 students participated in the pledge recitation ceremony.
A special lecture on “Life and works of Dr B R Ambedkar” followed by recitation of the preamble of the Indian Constitution was organized by the NSS Unit of GDC Ramkote, under the mentorship College Principal, Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul. The programme began with the lecture delivered by Poonam Rani , faculty from the Department of Political Science. Thereafter, students and faculty participated in pledge taking ceremony on Preamble to the Indian Constitution, emphasizing its importance for all citizens of India.
GDC (Boys) Kathua commemorated the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar with a series of meaningful events organized under the guidance of Principal, Prof Seema Mir. The events were conducted by the NSS Units of the college in coordination with Nehru Yuva Kendra Kathua. The day commenced floral tribute to Dr Ambedkar followed by a solemn pledge-taking ceremony in front of the Administrative Block of the campus.
To commemorate the occasion, GDC Dudu Basantgarh showed the students a documentary on life, contribution and sacrifices of Dr BR Ambedkar. Prof Pradeep Kumar highlighted the legacy of Dr Ambedkar thoroughly. Faculty members namely Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Ashiq Raina and Dr Irfan Bhat highlighted the contribution of Dr Ambedkar in social, political, cultural, economics and religious fields through their lectures.
