MENDHAR, Dec 13: The traffic jam at main market on route to Sub District Hospital Mendhar for more than two hours gave nerve-wrecking time to the family of a patient / victim being ferried in an ambulance to the Govt Medical Collage, Hospital Rajouri during noon on Friday.
The ambulance remained stuck for more than 30 minutes in the jam and was later provided passage after tough efforts by locals and some cops.
Traffic movement at busy Hanuman Temple Market also had a cascading effect on other important routes including Bus Stand and Shahidi Yaadghar Chowk. The traffic movement remained out of gear from 3pm to 5pm and spotted an ambulance stuck in the middle of traffic snarl at Hanuman Temple Market.
The ambulance driver told Excelsior that patient met with an emergency and turned serious. That is he has been referred to Rajouri. “But see this traffic congestion. It is not allowing us to move ahead,” he added.
There was about 1km long queue of vehicles on both carriageways, leaving commuters fuming. The police, like always, seemed helpless on the face of the traffic onslaught. Not many traffic policemen were seen trying to control the situation.
Suresh Kumar and Ketan Verma, shopkeepers, said that route of Mendhar hospital which would take 5 minutes to cover takes at least 50 minutes if you get stuck in jam. “Traffic police is missing when you need them the most as a result of which people have to fend for themselves,” they added.
