JAMMU, Mar 7: Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo today said that a proposal to amend the Juvenile Justice Act is under active consideration of the Government. Moreover, the Government is also considering establishment of a State Commission for protection of Child Rights in the State.
Replying to a question by Er. Abdul Rashid in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister informed that necessary steps are being taken by the Government to bring the Jammu and Kashmir Juvenile Justice Act at par with the Central Act.
She told the House that establishment of Juvenile Justice Courts at District levels was the jurisdiction of Law Department and not Social Welfare Department.
Responding to the supplementary questions raised by Ashok Kumar and Mehbooba Mufti, the Minister said that the Government is taking due care for counselling and look after of Juvenile Home children.
