SRINAGAR, Sept 30: Despite threats from Government to disengage its employees from the service if found unauthorized absent and involved in frequent strikes to press its demands, Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), an amalgam of various employee unions, today said that they will continue agitation as per the schedule.
The leaders of JCC met here at Agriculture Office and chalked out future course of action against the Government till their demands were not met.
JCC leader Abdul Qayoom Wani, told Excelsior that the JCC leaders today assembled at Agriculture office as per their protest calendar. “Police tried to arrest us, but we managed to escape from the spot,” Wani said.
Wani said police raided District Institute of Education Training (DIET), Food Supplies and Irrigation Department to arrest them, but failed to arrest any of the top leaders of the JCC.
Wani said earlier they have set a deadline before Government, but it failed to meet their promise that was why JCC was protesting again and again. “They deceived us, there are visible signatures of them on our demands, but the same were not implemented yet,” Wani said, adding that it won’t yield to ‘dictatorial tactics’ and will continue with its scheduled protest programme for the fulfillment of demands.
“Government should feel ashamed of the fact that instead of implementing the written agreement, they are trying to threaten us. We will not change an iota of our scheduled program as it is our democratic right to demand and fight for our rights,” Wani told Excelsior.
Wani said the Government asked for 10 days time, then immediately they changed their stance. “Government is at liberty to do whatever they want. But we want to convey to them that they will not be able to stop us from demanding our rights,” he said.
Earlier on Saturday evening, the Government issued a statement warning the striking employees of strict action. “Apart from enforcement of the principles of ‘no work no wages’, action as may be deemed appropriate may be taken against those instigating/participating in the strikes/hartals. Such actions shall include treating the period of the unauthorized absence as dies-non/break in service and may even entail dismissal from service,” the statement has said.
Wani said the Government is befooling them on one or the other pretext and to pass the time.
