SRINAGAR, Mar 12: As the fresh snowfall draped several places in Kashmir, the army today had to rescue a pregnant woman from a far off place after she developed labour pain.
As per reports, Shakina Begum who was in labour was being shifted from far-off Nunwani village in north Kashmir to a Hospital in Kupwara District Kalaroos in an ambulance, but the vehicle got stuck due to the heavy snowfall and could not move further due to the narrow and slippery road.
An Asha worker who was accompanying the patient, keeping in view the sensitivity of the situation immediately contacted Major Mukesh who is Kalaroos Company Commander of Army.

Accordingly, an army team along with the medics reached the spot and made efforts to carry the patient to the ambulance, however, they faced trouble in reaching the ambulance that was stuck.
Not budging to the hurdles of the snowfall, and keeping in view the importance of every second, the army men got out of the vehicles and reached the ambulance on foot.
They carried the woman on a stretcher for more than 300 meters amid heavy snow and finally reached the army vehicle waiting. The woman was shifted into a Gypsy and was carried safely to Kalaroos Hospital.
Upon her arrival at the hospital, the doctors immediately attended to her and rushed her to the labour room. Later, Shakina underwent a delivery and gave birth to a baby girl.
The family of the woman as well as the Asha worker who was accompanying said that they are thankful to the army for their timely help in carrying Sakina to the hospital-which otherwise could have been a very difficult situation for them.
Altaf Ahmad-father of the woman-said that the soldiers’ timely help played a great role in making sure that his daughter delivered a baby girl without any complications. “I am indebted to them,” he said.
