JAMMU, Oct 5: Secretary Transport, Amit Sharma, led a crucial committee meeting at his office in the Union Territory of Ladakh to discuss the rationalization of motor vehicles in the region.
This significant committee, recently established by the UT Administration, was tasked with evaluating various motor vehicle proposals from different departments to determine the actual requirements in Ladakh.
Secretary, Amit Sharma, in his opening remarks, emphasized the importance of this committee, formed under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor, Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra, and Advisor, Dr Pawan Kotwal. Their goal is to ensure the efficient and rational utilization of transportation resources in the UT of Ladakh.
The committee, chaired by Transport Secretary Amit Sharma, consisted of members such as Director Accounts and Treasuries, Safdar Ali, Deputy Director Planning, Tsering Angdus, Deputy Director Garages, Dr Namgyal, and Under Secretary to LG, Vivek Sharma. They engaged in detailed discussions during the meeting and later briefed the Advisor on the outcomes.
One of the primary decisions taken by the committee was to gather data on all existing vehicles currently in use across Ladakh.
This data would serve as the foundation for subsequent rationalization efforts.
Amit Sharma instructed the relevant parties to swiftly acquire data on newly acquired vehicles, old vehicles eligible for decommissioning, as well as functional and public utility vehicles in the UT of Ladakh.
He concluded that once the committee has collected the necessary data, they will prepare a comprehensive report outlining the optimal requirement of motor vehicles in Ladakh. This report will also consider the challenging terrains and severe weather conditions that prevail in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
