KOCHI, Dec 20:
Urging other political parties in the country, who were always propagating secularism, to come forward and support a bill against forcible conversion, BJP National President Amit Shah today made it clear that his party was against forcible conversions. Addressing media here, he reiterated the BJP was against forcible conversions and that was why his party was advocating to bring in a legislation in this regard and sought the support of secular parties to support the BJP’s endeavour in this regard.
Claiming that the BJP was the only party which demanded a new legislation in this regard, Mr Shah asked the ‘so called secular parties’ to make their stand clear on whether they were supporting the idea.
‘BJP is totally against forceful conversations,’ Mr Shah added.
Replying to a question, the senior BJP leader said a public debate in this regard could be taken up only after reaching a consensus among other political parties who were always talking about secularism.
Dismissing Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that the BJP was trying to divide the country on communal lines, Mr Shah said there was no fact in it. On the black money issue, he said the BJP was committed to bring it back from abroad. (UNI)
