Amitabh to render national anthem before Indo-Pak match at Eden

 

KOLKATA: Mega star Amitabh Bachchan will sing the national anthem before the start of the India-Pakistan World T20cricket match at the Eden Gardens on the evening of March 19 at the invitation of former India captain Sourav Ganguly. While the Bollywood superstar and brand ambassador of ‘Incredible India’will sing the Jana Gana Mana, Pakistan’s classical singer Shafaqat Amanat Ali will render the national anthem for the visiting Pakistan team. Meanwhile, Bachchan twitted that “A jolt for our T20 team…but faith in them .. do not worry TeamIndia, we are with you,”reacting to India’s defeat by 47-run at the hands of New Zealand in Nagpur last night.  The Sourav Ganguly headed Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had invited Mr Bachchan to render the national anthem at the Eden Gardens before the high-voltage India-Pakistan match. After watching the T20 match, the 73-year-old mega-star would fly back to Mumbai to attend his grand-daughter Aaradhya’s annual day school function on Sunday.  Before the match the CAB will also felicitate  eight cricketing legends – four Indians and as many Pakistanis – for their contribution to sports and games. Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid of India and Intikhab Alam, Imran Khan, Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram would be honoured with mementos prior to the start of the high octaneplay.  (AGENCIES)
