The book entitled “Anant” in Dogri by renowned author Ved Rahi has now come out in the Hindi edition which will certainly get much wider readership. The story-line of this 336-page book is based on the unique mass movement across Jammu region, which is popularly known as “Bamb-Bamb Bhole agitation” in the year 2008 against deep sense of discrimination and injustice over land allotment issue connected with holy Sri Amarnath yatra. This movement engulfed Jammu region and subsequently spread elsewhere also.
This mass protest lasted for over two months and was participated by all men, women and the youth of all sections of society in the true Gandhian spirit. It represented the strong will of the people and sent a straight and strong message for socio-economic justice. This democratic way led to a sustained struggle and also sacrifices.
Mr Rahi’s keen sense of observation and sentiments moved him to pick-up this theme and weaved out a novel in Dogri with his characteristic sensitivity and literary charm. This book in Dogri got acclaimed in the literary circles and the general readership. Now it has come out in Hindi language with translation competently done by Dr. Adarsh, an eminent man of scholarship.
‘Anant’ in Hindi
The agitation was “unique” in more than one ways. The pent-up public sentiments of discrimination and exploitation found expression in the peaceful protests and demonstrations. Ved Rahi with keen observations depicted this theme and based on it wrote the “Anant”. It may be recalled that the English writer Charles Dickens had authored a book based on the background of French Revolution.
Quality Translation
This book has vividly portrayed in detail the entire struggle and the spirit behind it. Rahi’s work in Dogri has now been competently translated into Hindi by well known scholar Dr. Adarsh who deserves a word of praise for the translation by keeping the true spirit and the very soul of the original work. He has done the job as a professional. Dr. Adarsh must have put in lot of hard work and applied his talent to obtain optimal outcome in the form of present volume. The translator certainly has competence in both the Dogri as well as the Hindi languages.
Absorbing Plot
The “Anant” in Hindi has come handy for the readers all over. The printing of this book is of fine grade, the paper is of high quality and the language is marked by its purity, simplicity and style. I have gone through the book and found it both exciting and informative. In the present times, it is a positive sign that quality works of literary value in one language must be made available in various other Indian languages. The writings in all the languages, regional or national, after all constitute the Indian literature. Efforts must be made to give translation version of classic works in various other languages.
While Ved Rahi is a renowned author of a number of books in verse and prose, as also a well known name in filmdom, firm commitment to his mother tongue and Duggar’s cultural heritage is well known. This Hindi version published by Darshana Prakashan, Mumbai will be welcomed by all the people comprising the academicians, scholars, students and all the common citizens. I think “Anant” will be appreciated by one and all.
