JAMMU, Dec 19: Chairman Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali and Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today directed the concerned officers of PHE Department to take immediate steps for clearing the liabilities under various schemes and programmes.
These instructions were passed to the officers during a joint meeting convened by Chairman and Minister to discuss the important issues relating to district Kargil. The Minister directed the concerned to identify projects under Desert Development Programme (DDP) and National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) to improve the drinking water infrastructure and provide potable water to the uncovered areas in the district.
Threadbare discussion was held on the overall drinking water scenario and ongoing PHE schemes including purchase of water tankers, installation of hand pumps, release of wages to the daily wagers and casual labors working in PHE Department. The Chairman directed the executing agencies to gear up the field functionaries to speed up the pace of work on all ongoing works under different sectors and complete them in stipulated time frame.
Haji Anayat observed that in Kargil and Zanaskar all sources of water get frozen during the winter and the tanker service remains the only alternative for supply of water. He stressed the need for purchasing adequate number of tankers to meet the requirement.
Addressing the meeting, PHE Minister directed the concerned to submit a proposal regarding creation of technical staff required for new water supply and lift irrigation schemes in Kargil to the Administrative Department for further necessary action. He also asked them to speed up the pace of work on all schemes to complete them in a time bound manner.
Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil Kachoo Ahmad Khan, Legislators Haji Asgar Ali Karbali, Syed Mohammad Baqir Rizvi, Executive Councilors of LAHDC Kargil, Secretary PHE, Irrigation and FC, Sanjeev Verma, Deputy Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil Gulzar Hussain and other senior officers of various departments including PHE and Council Secretariat were present in the meeting.
