ANC demands CBI inquiry into illegal construction in hilly areas

JAMMU, June 25: Awami National Conference (ANC) today demanded CBI inquiry into the illegal construction in hilly areas.
Addressing a press conference, Muzaffar Shah, senior vice president, ANC said areas like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Baltal and Mata Vaishno Devi are in grave danger due to encroachments, illegal construction and land grabbing with emerging of concrete jungles.
Shah suggested formation of an expert committee of geologist and environmentalist along with members of civil society to examine these issues and suggest time bound action plan to take corrective measures. He also demanded probe into the allotment of land and permission for such illegal constructions under all the successive Coalition Governments.
He added that Central and State authorities are responsible for the loss of lives of Army jawans, as they have failed to take such steps which would prevent this kind of episode.
Shah also expressed sorrow and shock over the loss of the lives and mayhem caused by the calamity, which has befallen the people of Uttrakhand.
Nobody in the State has ever thought of creating any mischief for pilgrims visiting Holy Amarnath Shrine since hundreds of years, he said, adding that Home Minister and Army Chief are creating fear psychosis in the mind of pilgrims.
Among others present were provincial president Gain Singh, senior ANC Leader Deen Mohd Wani, Viay Mangotra, district president urban, Raj Sharma, district youth president, etc.
