SRINAGAR, Aug 7: In a memorandum submitted to LG, the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, J&K today raised concerns over their honorarium rates, delayed payments, lack of incentives for services in COVID-19 and inadequate facilities.
The Union has brought attention to the disparities in their honorarium rates compared to those of workers in other States and Union Territories. Currently receiving only Rs 5100, they sought parity with their counterparts across the country.
One pressing issue highlighted in the memorandum is the delayed disbursement of the honorarium. The workers emphasized the need for timely payments to meet their essential needs without undue financial strain.
The Union has also raised concerns about pending liabilities from 2019 in certain Districts/Blocks. Despite seeking resolution through various channels, the memorandum states, the matter remains unresolved.
While mobile phones have been provided to workers for uploading relevant information, the absence of data charges presents a challenge. The workers have also requested the release of Rs. 300 per month to cover data expenses.
Another critical aspect the Union brought to light is the inadequate uniform support. Workers receive Rs. 500 as uniform charges, which is deemed insufficient. They have requested proper uniforms for both the summer and winter seasons.
The Anganwadi centres, as per the Union, are also facing issues with basic infrastructure. The lack of facilities such as matting, gas stoves, and furniture has hampered their ability to provide efficient services. The Union has appealed for the provision of necessary infrastructure to enhance the centres’ functioning.
Despite playing a crucial role in serving communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, Anganwadi workers and helpers, as per the memorandum, have not received incentives like other departments. The workers expressed disappointment over not being compensated or appreciated for their dedication and efforts.
The Union has urged the reconsideration of the recent HR Policy to address the concerns of the workers and helpers aiming for the improvement of their working conditions and overall welfare.
