JAMMU, July 12: Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association (AWWA) held protest and demanded increase in the salaries of Anganwadi workers and helpers.
Large number of Anganwadi workers and helpers assembled near Press Club here and held protest demonstration. The protesters were demanding release of salaries pending for the past 5 months and hike in the salaries of Anganwadi workers and helpers.
While addressing the gathering, Swarna Choudhary, President, Neelam Sharma, General Secretary, Subash Verma, Vice President and Ashok Choudhary, General Secretary, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh said that the prices of the essential commodities are touching sky and the Government should raise the salary of Anganwadi workers and helpers.
They stated that Government is paying less salary to them. In other states like Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, the Anganwadi workers and helpers are getting salaries, with which they can meet their needs, but J&K Government is doing nothing to provide succor to Anganwadi workers and helpers, they said.
They added that the Government has increased the working hours of Anganwadi workers to six hours, but has not increased their salaries, which is grave injustice with them.
They added that the payment of the Anganwadi workers and helpers should be released per month and proper salary book should be maintained for information to the workers.
They demanded 100 per cent promotion for Anganwadi workers to supervisors with proper seniority list, constitution of Tripartite Grievances Committees at State and District levels, nutrition with all items quarterly, payment of labour and carriage charges with TA and DA payment as per scheme order, etc.
Among others present were Sushma Devi, Kamlesh Devi, Parsano Devi, Koushalaya Devi, Nirmal Devi, Soma Devi, Chintpurni, Anju Devi, Raksha Kumari, Veena Devi, Vaishno Devi, Anita Devi, etc.
