JAMMU, June 19: Angan-wari workers and helpers will go on mass leave on July 12 in support of their demands and will also hold a protest rally at Press Club, Jammu.
This was disclosed today by Ashok Choudhary, general secretary, Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), J&K, addressing a press conference along with leaders of Anganwari Workers Welfare Association (AWWA), Jammu province.
Choudhary said that Anganwari workers and helpers are facing severe financial hardships as Government is paying a meagre amount of Rs 3500 per month to Anganwari workers and Rs 1800 per month to helpers and that too have not been paid for last five months.
Criticizing the concerned Minister for his statement regarding increase of Rs 500 in salary of Anganwari workers, Choudhary said that all the MLAs of the State cutting across party lines have been demanding six fold salary hike for themselves but nobody is concerned about these poor Anganwari workers and helpers.
He said that Anganwadi workers are demanding salary hike from the Government since 2004 but nobody listened to them and they are being exploited continuously for meager payment by the Government.
Other demands highlighted during the press conference were payment of salary month wise with proper maintenance of salary book, providing nutrition quarterly at Anganwadi centres, payment of labour and carriage charges with TA/DA payment as per scheme, 100% promotions for Anganwadi workers on the post of supervisors with proper seniority and constitution of tripartite grievances committees at State level and district level.
AWWA president, Swarna Choudhary and general secretary, Neelam Sharma, were also present on the occasion.
