JAMMU May 16: Excise Commissioner, Tsering Angchuk chaired monthly revenue review meeting of Excise and Taxation Department here at Jammu today.
During the meeting, the over-all growth scenario of the revenue receipts of the department for the month of April was discussed threadbare and examined critically. It was noticed in the meeting that the total revenue realized during the month of April 2016 has been recorded to the tune of Rs. 86.66 crore in comparison to the Rs 70.42 crore realized during April 2015, with a growth of 23%. ,a definite upward trend in the revenue realization of the department. Total Excise revenue has shown a growth of 32%, Toll revenue 18.10%, while distillery revenue has shown a growth of 13.51%.
Excise Commissioner was apprised that during April 2016, 4300 willow clefts were seized at Lakhanpur and 11,870 Kg of Lahan destroyed in all Excise Ranges of Jammu division especially district Kathua. In Kashmir division, a massive drive has been launched by the Excise Department to destroy the illegal poppy crop and the same has been destroyed on more than 593kanals of land.
In the meeting it was informed that for the first time in district Kishtwar, poppy cultivation has been destroyed on 6.5kanals of land by the Excise sleuths. Regular raids have been conducted in the entire Jammu division to arrest the menace of illegal smuggling of liquor from other States, illicit distillation of liquor and other violations.
In the process arrest of eleven persons has been made and cases have been lodged in various courts of law against the accused persons for illicit distillation of liquor and other ancillary offences.
All the Deputy Excise Commissioners and Excise and Taxation Officers were present in the meeting.
