JAMMU, June 3: The Ankurarpanam ritual, a prelude to the Maha Samprokshanam festivities, was held at the Srivari temple in Majin village, Jammu, on Saturday.
During this religious event, several rituals were observed between 6pm and 8pm, including Acharya Varanam, Punyahavachanam, Mritsangrahanam, and Ankurarpanam.
The Ankurarpanam ritual, also known as “sowing the seed,” is performed to express the intention to celebrate a festival and seek the blessings of the Lord.
According to scriptures, Ankurarpanam or Beejavapanam involves sowing seeds in sacred mud pots, typically done 9, 7, 5, or 3 days before the festival, or at least one day in advance.
This ritual is performed in the evening as per astrological principles. It is believed that Chandra, the Moon God, who is considered the controller of plants, influences the successful growth of the seeds. Hence, the seed sowing ceremony is conducted at night before every festival.
The ancient texts, known as Agamas, also state that the sprouting of seeds signifies the successful celebration of the festival.
A press statement said that in the upcoming days, from June 4 to 7, other Vaidika rituals will be performed, followed by the Maha Samprokshanam on June 8, scheduled between 7:30am and 8:15am, in the auspicious Mithuna Lagnam.
Devotees will be able to have darshan (sacred sight) of the Lord starting from 9:30am onwards.
Several dignitaries, including Venugopala Deekshitulu, one of the chief priests of the Tirumala temple, Kankanabhattar Ramakrishna Deekshitulu, DyEO’s Gunabhushan Reddy and Sivaprasad, along with other officials, were present during the Ankurarpanam ritual.
