Annual action plan meeting of KVKs held at SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Apr 17: Two-day State level annual action plan meeting of KVKs of Jammu and Kashmir State was inaugurated today by Dr Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu. The meeting is being organised under the chairmanship of Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, R S  Pura, SKUAST-Jammu with the focus to finalize the annual action plans 2018-19 of KVKs under the administrative control of SKUAST-Jammu, SKUAST-Kashmir and Central Institute for Temperate Horticulture (CITH), Kashmir.
The Senior Scientist &  Heads and Scientists of KVKs from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh divisions discussed in detail the activities proposed to be carried out in their respective districts.
Dr  Pradeep K  Sharma,  in his address,  said that KVKs are the real windows of State Agricultural Universities and stressed upon the up-scaling of KVKs’ activities for higher level adoption of recommended technologies on farmers’ fields. He further reiterated the need for enhancing the visibility of KVKs in J&K for gaining confidence of farmers and other stakeholders. He advised KVKs to enhance the farmers base of KVKs by covering the remote and far flung areas of the State.
Dr  Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana, stressed upon the need for carrying out social budgeting of KVKs using suitable methodology. He also suggested to create the record of farm level innovations adopted by farmers in different districts. He informed that the present Central Government is giving more impetus to KVKs and some new schemes like NARI, VARTICA, KSHMTA etc. are going to be implemented in near future through KVKs.
Dr  Arvind Kumar, Principal Scientist from Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-I, Ludhiana also provided useful inputs for improving the action plan of KVKs and suggested ways to enhance the revolving fund of KVKs.
Earlier, Dr  R K  Arora, Associate Director Extension (KVKs)  elaborated the working of KVKs in Jammu region.
