SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Dr. Tasaduq Hussain, announced today that annual examinations up to class 9 will conclude by mid-December, allowing students to start new classes by the end of December.
Speaking to reporters after an event, Dr. Tasaduq stated that their immediate focus is on completing the current academic session by conducting exams.
“As per Government orders, we have revised the academic calendar. We will issue a uniform datesheet and complete the exams in time to transition into the new academic session in December,” he said.
He also mentioned that the DSEK has submitted a proposal to the Government regarding examination schedules, under which exams up to class 9 will begin in the second week of November.
“We aim to complete the exams by December 15 so that students can start new classes from December 20,” he added.
When asked if students will receive any syllabus relaxations or if exam papers would be adjusted, Dr. Tasaduq assured that the exams will be student-friendly and that students need not to worry.
“Students don’t need to be concerned. We are aware of the syllabus coverage in schools, with nearly 90 percent of the curriculum for classes up to 9 completed,” he said.
The Director clarified that the exams will be school-based, noting that teachers are best positioned to assess the material covered with their students.
Addressing students directly, he advised, “Don’t stress about these exams. They will be student-friendly and competency-based, so you won’t face difficulties.”
Meanwhile, the Directorate today issued a uniform date-sheet from class 1 to 9, with the first paper scheduled to be held on November 25.
It’s worth noting that shortly after the new Government assumed office, a decision was made to revise the academic calendar for classes up to 9. For other classes, a decision will be taken next year.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also acknowledged that there was strong demand for this change, noting it was implemented without prior consultation with parents and students.
The shift in the academic session has received widespread approval and is seen as a relief for both students and parents.
The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) commended the change, stating that the previous shift to a March session in 2022 had disrupted study cycles and added stress for students.
“The return to the November session will restore a balanced academic rhythm, allowing students to perform at their best,” it stated.
