JAMMU, Jan 6: The annual General Body meeting of the Trustees of Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust was held at the Trust complex, near Channi, here today.
Trustees from all over the State participated in the meeting, which was presided over by Masud A Choudhary, Patron-in-Chief of the Trust.
To achieve the aims and objective of the Trust, 156 new Trustees have been inducted and its total strength has now gone up to 189. The new Members inducted from the community are from different walks of life, who have excelled in various fields; such as Education, Engineering, Administration and Sports etc.
In today’s General Body meeting, it was resolved to take steps to inculcate the spirit of national integration among the community and voice its aspirations vociferously besides making all-out efforts for increasing literacy rate in the nomad population and their rehabilitated. It was also decided that since the Trust has completed 25 years of its existence, Silver Jubilee shall be celebrated during the current year.
While speaking on the occasion, the Patron-in-Chief informed that K B Public Hr Sec School, being run under the aegis of the Trust, shall be upgraded and job oriented courses shall be introduced during this year. He further said that Vocational Tutorial Centre shall also be upgraded.
He revealed that the Trust shall conduct seminars on regular basis on different subjects pertaining to the Gujjar community. He also hinted at the Cultural Center’s renovation with all digital facilities, including the provision of Air-Condition etc.
Choudhary exhorted the Members to make efforts to arrange funds for achieving the aims and objectives of the Trust. It was informed that Trust is contemplating to improve the sports infrastructure at K B Public Hr Sec School. He also announced that distinguished personalities from the community shall be honored from time to time so that they are encouraged further to excel in their respective fields.
Earlier, Chairman of the Trust, Ch Abdul Hamid read the welcome address while the Annual Report was presented by Ch Bashir Ahmed Noon, general secretary and Ch Shah Mohammad Advocate read the brief history of Trust from its inception.
He apprised the members that the Trust was started from zero in the year 1991 with the sole aim to uplift the tribal Gujjar community socially, educationally and to preserve the culture, language and rich tradition of Gujjars.
