KISHTWAR, July 16: The three-day-long annual Sarthal Devi Yatra 2024 concluded here today with the offering of a ‘Thali’ to the deity in a traditional manner marking enthusiasm of the devotees.
The Yatra was organized by the Management Council of Shri Sarthal Devi Ji Trust under the patronage of Dr. Karan Singh, sole Trustee and Vikramaditya Singh Chairman Trustee of the Trust.
ASP Kishtwar, Rajinder Kumar Sharma and ACD Kishtwar, Phulail Singh also visited the shrine of the deity and paid obeisance during the Yatra period.
Today the members of Management Council performed ‘Saptshati Yagya’ in the temple and Prasad was served to the devotees on the concluding day.
Sanjeev Parihar, Vice Chairman Sarthal Devi Ji Management Council said that the most revered Sarthal Mata is considered as the re-incarnation of Goddess Durga and is the chief deity of Hindus in Kishtwar.
He said that this ancient temple was renovated by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1936.
Parihar said that this Yatra is a symbol of age-old tradition of Kishtwar.
“During Dogra rule, the Yatra was annually organized by the Maharajas,” he maintained adding: “This pilgrimage is one of the most significant one in the region and Dogra rulers were very particular towards making this Yatra comfortable for the devotees.”
Parihar thanked the district and Police administration Kishtwar for extending full support during the Yatra period.
