JAMMU, Oct 1: Two days after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh asked his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharief to stop ceasefire violations during their meeting in the United Nations, Pakistan Army today again violated ceasefire and opened firing on forward Indian positions in Mendhar sector of Poonch district.
Defence spokesman SN Acharya said Pakistan Army opened firing on forward Indian posts at Mendhar sector of Poonch district at 2.30 pm today. Pakistan Army used small and automatic fire arms.
Indian side retaliated and gave equal caliber response.
Exchange of firing continued for about an hour, official reports said, adding there were no casualties or damage on the Indian side.
Firing and ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in entire Poonch sector have become a regular feature since the first week of August this year.
