Another cop figures in nexus

JAMMU, Aug 26: Involvement of another police constable has surfaced in police-army-militant nexus, which was unearthed by Rajouri Police and Special Operations Group (SOG) yesterday.
“Involvement of Basharat Hussain, PSO of DySP Headquarters Rajouri was under investigations. He has been quizzed today and was likely to be interrogated tomorrow’’, a senior police officer said from Rajouri, adding that extent of involvement of Basharat was being ascertained before arresting him.
A police constable, a Territorial Army jawan, a suspected militant and a civilian were arrested yesterday by Rajouri police and SOG to break the nexus under which a grenade had been kept at the shop of a civilian Javed Ahmad at Darhali bridge, Rajouri to frame him as a militant.
Police parties headed by DIG Rajouri-Poonch range M K Sinha, SSP Rajouri Mubassir Latifi and DySP SOG Rajouri Aijaz Sheikh busted the nexus.
Rajouri police said today that it was focusing its investigations on the recovery of grenade from the house of Territorial Army jawan. The jawan Mohammad Hanief of Palma, Rajouri, presently posted in 156 TA at Surankote was being quizzed to ascertain source of the grenade.
Meanwhile, the Army today said it wouldn’t shield any jawan involved in any undesirable activity.
Army spokesman Col RK Palta said that Army was awaiting an official report from the police to initiate action against the TA jawan.
“Army wouldn’t shield anyone involved in wrongdoings’’, he said.
DIG Doda-Ramban range Gareeb Dass said the police constable Abdul Rahim, arrested by Rajouri police yesterday, had recently been transferred from Rajouri-Poonch to Doda-Ramban range. He was on leave for Eid-ul-Fitr. He added that action has been initiated against him and he was likely to be suspended. From DPL Ramban, the constable had been transferred to Kishtwar.
Police in Rajouri said the TA jawan was being quizzed to ascertain whether he got the grenade from militants or had stolen it from seizure of the Army.
All four accused including the TA jawan, a constable, a suspected militant Mohammad Rashid alias Kaka and a civilian Aurangzeb were being interrogated and would be sent to the JIC shortly.
As reported today, Rajouri police had yesterday unearthed police-army-militant-civilian nexus and recovered Chinese grenade planted in the shop of a civilian Javed Ahmad (brother of Aurangzeb). The TA jawan had sold the grenade for Rs 5000 to Aurangzeb, constable and suspected militant Mohammad Rashid alias Kaka.
