Another Kargil won’t be allowed: Harshdev

SRINAGAR, Oct 4:  National Panthers Party (NPP) leader in the House, Harshdev Singh today said that another Kagril can’t be allowed in Keran sector where militants backed by Pakistani troops have occupied a village near the Line of Control (LoC) and demanded a statement from the Government over the issue. And the Assembly  witnessed noisy scenes at the beginning of House proceedings after two days holidays.
Singh raised the issue of infiltration in Keran sector of North Kashmir in the House as it met after two days of holidays. “We will not allow another Kargil in Keran”, he said adding that for the past ten days, firing was going on between Army and infiltrators, who have occupied two villages-Shalla Bhata and Jamkan.
The MLA alleged that Pakistani Army has taken the control of these villages. “It is another Kargil in Kashmir. It was a serious issue for everyone. It is a challenge to national integrity”, he said.
The NPP members wanted to know the latest position on the LoC in Keran sector and demanded a statement from the Government on the issue.
The Speaker of the Assembly Mubarak Gul while refusing a Government statement in the House today over the issue said it is a very sensitive issue and let Government get full details before any reply is given. The NPP MLAs walked out from the House over Gul’s refusal for any Government statement over the issue.
The Speaker said that since the information about this has to be sought from Defence Ministry and Army and it is national issue Government will give a statement after the information is sought.
“We all are concerned over the reports. How the Government will give instant reply. The information about the incident will be with Army and Defence Ministry”, said Gul said asking the NPP members to resume their seats.
The NPP members raised anti-Pakistan and anti-Coalition Government slogans over the Keran issue. “Pakistan Hai Hai, Coalition Government Hai Hai”, the members shouted the slogans before walking out.
MLA Langate Engineer Rashid said in the House that Army should clear its position over the Keran issue. “Initially they said that 12 militants have been killed by them as they were infiltrating. We are still unaware, where the bodies were buried and who they were”, he said.
Rashid said Karen sector has become a flash point for the last 15 days and contradictory statements over the issue are being given. “It has become important for the Government to inform the House about Keran happenings”, he said.
MLA Ashwani Kumar said that no talks should be held with Pakistan and Assembly should pass a resolution for stopping the militant activities. He was speaking on the issue of recent attack in Samba and Hira Nagar area.
Earlier, the Legislative Assembly witnessed noisy scenes, disrupting Question-Hour for about 20 minutes and MLA Engineer Rashid stormed into the well of the House after Speaker Mubarak Gul refused to allow him to speak before the Question Hour.
Before the Speaker Mubarak Gul took up the first question of the Question-Hour, members from all opposition parties created a ruckus. He repeatedly asked the members to resume seats but they continued shouting.
Speakers repeated pleas had no impact on the members. He said: “Let the House take up the Question-Hour as not even a single question was discussed since the Autumn session started on September 30.”
Later, in order to restore order, Gul allowed one member from each party to speak before taking up the normal business of the House.
The trouble started again when the Speaker allowed BJP member Ashok Khajuria to speak ahead of main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP members wanted that leader of the opposition Mehbooba Mufti should be allowed to speak first. However, Mufti asked her party members to resume seats and let Khajuria to initiate.
Immediately after members of different opposition parties were allowed to raise their issues before the Question Hour, MLA Rashid also wanted to say something, however, the Speaker took up the Question-Hour and did not allow him to raise his issue.
The angry Engineer Rashid rushed into the well of the House shouting at the Speaker and remained there for at least 5 minutes to register his protest. However, the Speaker ordered Watch and Ward officials of the House not to come close to Rashid.
The MLA resumed his seat after Gul assured him that he will be allowed to speak after the Question Hour and in between he had arguments with BJP and National Panthers Party (NPP) members.
