JAMMU, Nov 14: Yet another newly born child was abducted from Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital in the City here today.
The baby, as per reports, was abducted in full public view and despite the installation of the CCTV cameras in the Hospital premises.
Reports said that a woman hailing from tehsil Akhnoor namely Geeta Devi, wife of Suram Chand, delivered a male baby early in the morning and after few hours, a woman who befriended with the family abducted the baby, raising many questions on the functioning of hospital administration.
The woman abductor committed the crime when the husband of Geeta Devi had gone out to purchase medicines prescribed by the doctors.
After the incident, panic gripped the hospital and people took the hospital administration to task for the prevailing lawlessness and insecurity of newly born babies.
“How the abductor managed to take away the baby from the hospital when CCTV cameras were already installed in the hospital premises is a million dollar question? One of the CCTV cameras installed in the CMO room remained closed most of the time”, reports said.
The hospital administration has failed to provide CCTV footage to the Police Department so far.
Confirming the abduction of the newly born baby, SHO City Police Station, Bishnesh Kumar, said that a case of kidnapping has been registered at Police Post SMGS Hospital, against an unknown woman and investigations are on.
According to him, the woman in black saree befriended with the family and later skipped with the newly born baby.
The people around thought that the woman might be their relative or attendant, he added.
“We are trying to locate the kidnapper and will try our best to unite the child with the parents, but the Hospital authorities have failed to provide CCTV footage so far,” he said.
This is the second abduction during the last four days, as the Hospital administration has failed to keep a check on the people carrying away the newly born babies from the Hospital.
