ANTF recovers 500 kgs of poppy straw, arrests two

JAMMU, Aug 19: Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) recovered huge quantity of poppy straw and arrested two inter-state drug peddlers.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) ANTF Vinay Sharma, on specific information regarding the smuggling of narcotics substances from Kashmir Valley to Punjab via Mughal Road, the sleuths of ANTF swung into action and laid check points at various places on Mughal Road.
During checking, the sleuths of ANTF intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK05G-9444 and during checking, 500 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in apple boxes was seized.
“Two drug peddlers were arrested on the spot and were identified as Imtiyaz Hussain, son of Mohammad Hussain Shoel of Chhachhwan Gool and Ubaid Ahmad Dar, son of Sona-Ullah Dar of Darsu Khalsa District Baramulla”, SP said, adding that the truck has also been seized and FIR under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered.
SP informed that initial investigation has revealed that this consignment was being carried from Kashmir Valley to Punjab. ANTF is investigating forward and backward linkages of this inter-state drug racket, SP ANTF Vinay Sharma added.
