Anti-encroachment drive

Sir,
Refer news item ‘JMC removes encroachments, clears foothpaths, pavements’ DE May 31.
The anti-encroachment drive launched by the JMC against rehris/pharies/hoardings is a step in right direction. It has become a habit of encroachers to occupy every inch of land meant for pedestrians. As such it becomes quite difficult for people to have easy movement in congested areas like Jain Bazar, City Chowk etc. At times these also create long traffic jams in the city. The JMC should launch anti-encroachment drives regularly, and it should not be a one-time affair. Though these rehriwalas have every right to earn their livelihood, they should  be allotted special zones where they can set up their rehris, carts without any interference.
Besides, the shopkeepers who stock their goods on pavements should be penalised heavily. In case that does not happen, shopkeepers will continue to exhibit their wares on roadpaths meant exclusively for pedestrians.
Yours etc…
