LEH, Jan 30: Like other parts of India the Anti Leprosy Day campaign started from today at Chief Medical Office (CMO).
On the occasion, LAHDC Leh Executive Councilor for CA&PD and Tourism Mohammad Shafi Lassu was the chief guest.
The fortnight campaign began with the theme “To ensure that there is no new case of Child with disability due to Leprosy”.
Shafi Lassu said that due to Mahatma Gandhi’s strong campaign and rendering help to the leprosy affected people in the past the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi (January 30) has been observed as Anti-leprosy day throughout the India. Mentioning about Hill Council’s initiatives of screening the entire population of Leh District for HIV/Hepatitis cases, Shafi urged upon the Health workers to survey for such diseases while doing door-to-door campaign for Leprosy detection cases during the fortnight campaign.
Earlier, BMO Leh Dr Tashi Namgyal presented the welcome address.
DHO/MO Leprosy Leh Dr Manzoor-Hu-Haaq while speaking informed that 366 Health Department workers are engaged in door-to-door screening campaign covering 17286 household who were supervised by 74 supervisor engaging 10 vehicles to cover the entire district in 10 days.
Deputy CMO, Leh Dr T Norphel detailed about this fortnightly programme in Leh district said that 11 cases in Leh district has been reported out of which most of them were non-locals. He assured that they will leave no stone unturned in mobilizing the public to detect any new cases.
On the occasion District Leprosy Society of Health Department conducted Re-orientation training for health workers on Leprosy Case detection at CMO office. On the occasion Dermatologist Dr Altaf Hussain, CHO Aman Ullah and health workers were also present.
Similarly, Anti-Leprosy day and Leprosy fortnight was observed today at PHC, Nyoma where BMO Dr Norzin, Dr Fayaz Ahmed and Dr Stanzin Changchub thoroughly educated a crowd of about 60 villagers and staff about leprosy and its remedy. Also present on the occasion were Nambardar, Sarpanch, President Ama Tsogspa and large number of public.
