Anti-polythene campaign: Mayor encourages students with success story of Dashrath Manjhi

JAMMU, May 3: Mayor of Jammu City, Rajinder Sharma today took the ongoing anti-polythene campaign to University of Jammu (JU) where the students expressed keen interest for the move intended to improve the environment in Jammu to ensure healthy living conditions.
Speaking on the occasion the Mayor said that it was these students who have whole heartedly supported prohibition of Saakh immersion in river Tawi on Ramnavmi festival and the devotees had preferred immersed holy Saakh in Ranbir canal.
He said that the students at JU have pledged support to anti-polythene campaign.
The Mayor stressed on the effectiveness of willpower to accomplish any task and cited the example of Dashrath Manjhi who took 22 years, worked day and night using traditional tools and made a road in his village after cutting a mountain.
“I clearly see the same enthusiasm and spirit in you and this will in turn make the Jammu free from polythene and plastic within a month,” the Mayor told the gathering of JU students.
He said that every new work starts by adoring earth, sky, water, land, sun and the moon so that these natural deities remain pollution free to continue showering their blessings on mankind and polythene ban will play a big role to keep the nature pollution free.
On this occasion a debate on ‘Hazards of Polythene’ was also held and first prize was won by Deepika Sharma, second by Sanchit Karloopia while the third prize was jointly shared by Paurvi Kaul and Ketan Kumar.
