Anti-Ragging week organized by GCET Jammu concludes

JAMMU, Aug 20: Aimed to educate students on the harmful effects of ragging, the Anti-Ragging week organized by Government College of Engineering & Technology (GCET), Jammu was concluded here today.
The week featured a variety of activities such as poster-making, slogan-writing, and debate competitions, all intended to express the negative impacts of ragging and educate students about its consequences.
An expert lecture titled “Combating Ragging: Legal Safeguards and the Role of Institutions,” was delivered by Prof. Savita Nayyar from the Department of Law, University of Jammu.
The week concluded with a valedictory ceremony where Prof. (Dr.) Sameru Sharma, Principal of GCET, Jammu, applauded the winners of various competitions and urges students to unite to make GCET a campus of respect, safety and zero tolerance for ragging.
She also commended the Anti-Ragging Committee for their dedicated efforts in organizing the event.
Prof. (Dr.) Anita Brar, Convener of the Anti-Ragging Committee, highlighted the primary objectives of the campaign, stressing the importance of ongoing vigilance against ragging.
The winners of the various competitions were Anushika from the 7th Semester, Mechanical Engineering Department for Slogan Writing, Taniya Rajput from the 5th Semester, Electronics & Communication Engineering Department for Poster Making and Raghav Sharma from the 3rd Semester, Computer Science and Engineering Department for the Debate Competition.
The event was meticulously organized by a dedicated team, including Sheetal Gandotra, Manoj Gupta, Dr. Vikesh Kumar, Yogesh Gupta, Neeraj Gupta, Rachna Gupta and Karan Kapoor.
Special recognition was given to student coordinators Avleen Kaur, Sukaran Sharma and Saif-ul-Islam for their exceptional contributions.
A significant highlight was the screening of a documentary detailing the legal and psychological effects of ragging, aimed at increasing sensitivity towards its impact on newcomers.
