JAMMU, Dec 2: A delegation of Association of Industries (AoI), Gangyal met the Managing Directors of SICOP , Inderjeet and Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organisation, Khalid Jahangir at Udhyog Bhawan here today.
Led by president of the Association, Virendra Jain and general secretary Sanjay Langar, the members of the delegation projected the issues of the local small/micro units and concerning Draft Procurement Policy. They said since the vast majority of the units in local Micro/Small industrial sector, specifically established primarily to cater to the developmental requirements of State Govt Departments/ agencies, have been severely hit due to withdrawal of price/purchase preference, with the shifting to GeM portal, this singularly has become main reason towards the closure of the impacted units.
Most of the local micro/small units managed by their entrepreneurs single handedly were unable to compete with the national players due to higher cost of production because our J&K UT is situated at the last corner of the country, resulting in higher freight, cost of labour etc.
“In our land locked state situated at the fag end of the country with meager population, it is essential to protect local units through marketing support to the local/micro/small industrial units through prior /purchase preferences which were essentially instrumented and main features of Industrial Policies for pro notion and growth of Industries in J&K for which both SICOP and Trade Promotion Organisation have to play their roles positively and effectively,” they said.
The Association members sought intervention of both the Managing Directors into this urgent matter. They also demanded to bring improvement in the existing infrastructure such as repair of roads/cleaning, repair of drains and repair of street lights etc.
Both Managing Directors, gave patient hearing to the suggestions put forth by the Association representatives and assured that suggestions and issues of the AoI shall be addressed on priority.
